Frequently Asked Questions.
How can we help you?
Hopefully the answers to your questions can be found on this page. If you need further support please don’t hesitate to get in touch with our experts.
WHAT HEIGHT OF FENCING DO I NEED?
The height of your fencing is determined by what animals you are working with. Please use our “Fence Selector” tool to help you select the right fence, or contact us for further support.
CAN ONE FENCE BE USED FOR MULTIPLE SPECIES?
Yes, solid barrier fencing will be effective for all animals that come into contact with it. If there are multiple target species, we recommend using the tallest fence required for any of the target species. This approach ensures that all species, including those needing smaller fences, are adequately protected.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT FENCE “TYPES”?
AMX-T: Typically used for short-term projects 1-3 years. Made from recycled HDPE.
AMX-SP: Typically used for long-term projects 1-15 years. Made from recycled HDPE.
AMX-XP: Typically used for long-term projects 1-30 years. Made from non-corrosive metals.
HOW DURABLE IS HIGH-DENSITY POLYETHYLENE (HDPE)?
The typical benchmark life for HDPE is 50 years. Animex AMX-T and AMX-SP are made from recycled milk cartons and combined with carbon (a component found in tyres) to give the fencing a long life span and extended protection from UV degradation and other climatic factors including temperature and snow loading. Black is our standard color as it has the longest lifespan, although we can produce material in any color. Please note that colors other than black will incur an additional cost.
HOW MANY FT/M CAN BE INSTALLED PER DAY?
It’s difficult to anticipate the amount of fencing that can be installed per day, as it depends on several factors, including the site location and the number of contractors working on the installation. As an estimate, we would say that for a site with good conditions and a 4-person crew equipped with a trencher, approximately 650-1000ft/200-300m could be installed per day.
HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH DRAINAGE THROUGH SOLID FENCING?
All Animex products can be supplied with pre-perforated drainage holes that have a flow rate of 15 gal/sqft/min as a standard. If increased water flow is needed, many options are available that incorporate standard drainage components to allow the free flow of water. Don’t hesitate to contact us to discuss what may be best for your project.
WHAT MAINTENANCE CONSIDERATIONS ARE NEEDED FOR SOLID BARRIERS?
Typically, solid barriers require less maintenance than mesh products as vegetation does not grow through the fencing. All Animex products withstand the impact of trimmer wire, but care should always be taken when using a mower near any fence. Annual walkovers and general repairs are needed like with any fence but using a durable material will help to reduce repairs significantly. More details regarding maintenance can be found in The Wildlife Fencing Guide.
CAN YOU REPAIR/REPLACE ANIMEX?
Animex can be easily repaired by replacing individual sections of the fence if needed. We suggest ordering a few extra rolls for inventory to cut down on shipping costs if future repairs are needed.
CAN ANIMEX HDPE PRODUCTS (AMX-T/AMX-SP) BE USED WITH AMX-XP?
These products are compatible and can be easily installed together by using our standard method (by drilling holes through overlapping sections and securing together with fasteners).
